Another wrestler has been forced to vacate his championship due to injury this summer.
As reported by Inside The Ropes, at the most recent NXT UK tapings, Ilja Dragunov was forced to vacate his NXT UK Championship due to injury. The nature of the injury was not disclosed but he was wearing a walking boot.
It was announced at the taping that an eight-man tournament would be held to crown a new champion. The tournament also kicked off during the tapings and in the first-round matches, Tyler Bate, Mark Coffey, Trent Seven, and Oliver Carter advanced to the semi-finals.
Ilja Dragunov was NXT UK Champion for over 300 days, winning the title from WALTER, now Gunther, at NXT TakeOver: 36. During his title run, he defended the belt against A-Kid, Rampage Brown, Roderick Strong, and Jordan Devlin, now JD McDonagh.
