Rob Van Dam Likens himself to a bible thumper when discussing his early advocacy for cannabis use in WWE.
RVD is known for quite a few things. Death-defying offense, ECW memories, and 420. Long before Matt Riddle was making references to smoking on episodes of NXT, Rob Van Dam had coined the phrase, “RVD 4:20 says I just smoked your ass.”
Speaking with The High Times, RVD recalls an early interaction with Stephanie McMahon shortly after Van Dam came to the WWE in 2001.
“She said, ‘Look if you’re going to get high, at least be discreet about it,’” recalls RVD, who would say that he would continue feverishly advocating for the positive benefits of marijuana.
RVD would eventually get the WWE championship in 2006 but he popped shortly thereafter for possession, Van Dam would go on to say that the ECW Revival went downhill very fast after that.
“No trial, no nothing. It was way better before I got busted. When I came back, it was going downhill fast to its ultimate destruction.”
Nowadays, with laws changing regularly regarding cannabis, WWE continues to change its policies evident by Matt Riddle and the comfort that the company shows when he makes jokes regarding his habits.
RVD is on IMPACT Wrestling to this day and is even involved in the cannabis industry as well, with his RVDCBD line.
