Steve Austin Explains The Art Of Blading

Steve Austin is no stranger to bleeding in matches, famously getting color in big matches throughout his career.

Appearing on Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s podcast, The Dale Download, Austin explained how to get color.

“I went to a wrestling school. I was in there for about five months, one day a week. You’re learning how to take a bump and just fall to protect yourself. The 101 and 201 class, ‘Well here’s how you get color.’ No one teaches that. You know the little old school razors? We’d clip that thing in the middle, get some corners, push it through a piece of tape so you have a pull tab and put it on your wrist. Some guys would carry it in their mouths. Some guys in their waistband. Me, if it was a big pay-per-view, I have plan A, B, and C. I’m out there with three options. It’s a very interesting feeling when you first push that blade in your head because there is a crackle in your skin and then you’re going to drag just a little bit. Then, all of a sudden, trading blood with a lot of people with guys who are partying a little. Any night of the week, you can get a staph infection. It’s gotta be one of the most unsanitary places to roll around with a guy and get sweated on or bleed’d on,” he said.

The more you know.

Bret Hart and Austin have often told the story of how he helped Austin get color in their WrestleMania 13 classic.
