For weeks, Owens started using the stunner on WWE television in the same way Austin did it during his wrestling career. In an interview with The Wrap, Austin graded Owens' stunner and gave it a passing grade of a B+, adding that while there may have been instances of him not perfectly delivering, he's happy with the way he's been doing it.
"I would give it a B+. I’m a huge K.O. fan, but I’ve seen a couple of the deliveries that have been a little off," Austin said.
Although it may not be a perfect imitation of Austin's stunner, the WWE Hall of Famer believes Owens will get even better at it and is happy that if anybody in WWE used it, it would be Owens.
“He’s timing it up and he’s coming up — he’s got a little bit of a different finesse to it than I did. But I soon think he’ll achieve A to A+ status if practice makes perfect, and they gotta let him turn that thing loose. I enjoy watching him use it and I’m glad someone is using it. And I’m glad it’s him,” Austin said.
Like Austin's battles with Vince McMahon during the Attitude Era, Owens will do battle with Shane McMahon, Vince's son, at SummerSlam on August 11. Fightful will have live coverage of SummerSlam with a post-show podcast happening immediately after the show ends.
