Steve Austin: No One In The Locker Room Thought I Was An A**hole For Having My Own Belt

Steve Austin is one of very few WWE superstars to have their own custom belt during his reign as WWE Champion.

When Austin became WWE Champion in 1998, he debuted the Smoking Skull Title in July, giving a personal touch to his championship reign.

Speaking to Sam Roberts on WWE Network, Austin commented on getting a unique title and how he feels the locker room reacted.

"It was special. When you get that belt, it's not about you being bigger than the business, because you're not, but it's pretty special and unique and doesn't happen often, and it was accepted. The rest of the guys in the locker room, you care what they think, 'this guy has really turned into an asshole, he's got his own belt.' You don't want that. I don't think anybody thought that," said Austin.

Austin joked that he would keep the title in a carry-on bag at the airport and would have to "accidentally" show it off when security would stop him.

The Rock would throw the Smoking Skull Title into a river in April 1999.
