Stone Cold Steve Austin: We Had A Beer Sponsorship Opportunity In The Attitude Era

Steve Austin could have had a beer partnership much sooner.

Stone Cold Steve Austin is arguably the most synonymous wrestling superstar ever when it comes to his association with beer. Whether it was spraying Vince McMahon in the ring with a beer truck or chugging thousands of cold ones after his matches over the years, you can't talk about Austin without talking about alcohol.

In a new interview with the Brewhound Podcast, Austin revealed that he (and WWF) pitched a sponsorship to a major beer company during the attitude era.

"It was an option. We actually pitched a beer company, I won't name their name, but we've all heard of them and they are very popular. I just think it was due to the fact that I was very aggressive, maybe a little controversial. My mother used to tell me, 'Steven, if you were on TV when you were a kid, I wouldn't let you watch you.' What I was doing was very cutting edge, very edgy. That was the tip of the spear as far as the Attitude Era was concerned. I just don't think that was someone's idea of what a role model for their beer, what it looked like, at that time."

Although it may be 20 years too late, Austin now has his own beer available for purchase nationwide. Click here to learn more.
