On a recent edition of the Steve Austin Show, "Stone Cold" was asked who he would like to have one last program with among the current WWE superstars. Austin said, "I'm good friends with Brock Lesnar and it'd be fun to work with Brock 'cause I was supposed to all those years ago. I also really think Elias is doing well. I'd like to work with that guy to elevate him. I think he's on his way to being a top guy." He continued by saying, "I've known Brock forever and we're good friends. But Elias has been making more and more progress. The character is coming around. The guitar work is great. Damn good hand in the ring. Great gimmick. He's working baby(face) now and I think that's great."

Austin was scheduled to have a match against Lesnar in 2002, but Austin walked out on the company over the bout, feeling that it should have been built up more. The two did work together leading up to WrestleMania 20 and Lesnar's bout against Goldberg.

Austin has repeatedly stated that he won't return to the ring for another match as he doesn't wanted be remembered for being "old" in the ring. Austin's last official match came in 2003 at WrestleMania 19. He last appeared on WWE television at the Raw 25th Anniversary Show this past January.
