Steve Maclin speaks on tearing up when he was told that he would be working with Adam Copeland in Maple Leaf Pro.
At MLP Northern Rising on October 3rd, Maclin and Copeland would square off in a main event bout in the Maple Leaf Gardens, with Copeland coming away with the victory. It would be a big match for both men, as Copeland would tick off a bucket list venue and Maclin ticking off a bucket list opponent.
While speaking during a Maple Leaf Pro YouTube documentary about the bout, Steve Maclin would discuss finding out about the bout, noting that he teared up.
“I got told that I was working with Adam Copeland, and I literally just started tearing up, and I was just like, this is like out of happiness, and my wife was there, and it was just, ah. It’s just a moment you don’t ever think is going to happen in your career, and then two days later on an independent show, I break my leg. I had a spiral fracture in my fibula. My foot bent the entire outside, and instantly, everything is running through my head of, I just got into free agency. I’m in talks with places. I’m about to have a match with Adam Copeland, and now that is all gone. First step, get home, get x-rays, find out from the doctor what’s going on. Did that, got told no surgery, cool. How long do I have to be in a walking boot? Six weeks, perfect. But in the meantime, I had to come here to Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling in Windsor and work on a broken leg to finish this story, to get here to the Maple Leaf Gardens. October 3rd for Northern Rising with Adam Copeland. That’s all I kept in my head was October 3rd, I’m going to be fine, and there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that when I set a goal on something that I’m not gonna do it. So be the man that ruins this night for Adam is just that, it’s being a man. You don’t wanna do that, but at the same time you do because this is putting me on the map and showing the world of who Steve Maclin is.”
Elsewhere in the same documentary, Copeland spoke about thinking he needed to run his own show to secure a match in the Maple Leaf Gardens. You can read more about that here.
