Steve 'Mongo' McMichael Hospitalized With Suspected Pneumonia

ABC 7 Chicago reports that Steve "Mongo" McMichael, who has been battling ALS, was taken to the emergency room on Thursday night.

A spokesperson for the family said he was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet with a fever. He was also very lethargic, the spokesperson said.

"We are asking for prayers for Steve McMichael. He is going to the Emergency Room now with suspected pneumonia," a Thursday evening statement from his family read. "We will inform you as we have more updates."

McMichael was announced as one of the 2024 inductees into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony is set to take place in August 2024.

In August 2023, McMichael was admitted to the ICU due to sepsis And pneumonia. McMichael is already fighting against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was diagnosed with the disease in January 2021.

McMichael is best known to wrestling fans as a member of the Four Horsemen during his time in WCW and a commentator on WCW Nitro. He is a former WCW United States Champion. He retired from the NFL in 1994 and joined WCW in 1995.
