Sting On His AEW Run: It Was Fun Going Through Tables And Jumping Off A Balcony. It Was Just Great

Sting reflects on going out with a bang in AEW.

After being the face of WCW throughout the '80s and '90s and then TNA in the 2000s, it appears Sting's career was really done when he finished up his short stint with WWE in 2016 following his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

However, Sting debuted in AEW in 2020 at AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming and would go on to wrestle for another three years. That three-year run in AEW went from AEW Revolution 2021 through the same event in 2024. It saw Sting paired with Darby Allin and occasionally dabbling in the hardcore style that his young protege was known for.

Speaking to Adam Bernard of ScreenRant, Sting reflected on his journey, saying that he was concerned fans would think he was coasting on his reputation at first. Still, in the end, he had fun diving off balconies and going through tables before calling it a day by successfully retaining the AEW World Tag Team Championships against the Young Bucks at AEW Revolution 2024.

"It was just a highlight, the last three years. I didn't want wrestling fans to say, 'Yeah, he's just coasting along because he can.' I didn't want fans to say that. I wanted them to go, 'Oh, man, he's pulling out all stops all the way through to the end.' It was fun! It was fun going through tables. It was fun jumping off a balcony. It was just great, man, and surrounded by all these great young guys, young talent. An amazing run, and I'm so grateful for it."

Sting is currently making farewell appearances at conventions, as he says this will be the last year he wears his face paint.
