Austin vs Punk has long been a dream match that fans have called for and when CM Punk returned to WWE in 2023 just a year removed from Austin returning to the ring to take on Kevin Owens, fans hoped this meant they would get their wish. However, the match has yet to happen and now Austin has seemingly quashed the possibility of it happening.

While speaking on Insight With Chris Van Vliet in a new interview, Stone Cold Steve Austin was asked about a potential dream match with CM Punk, noting that ‘not everything can happen’ while comparing the matchup to him never having a match with Hulk Hogan.

“It was teased at one time, we were promoting a video game, and I think I just had an ACL, PCL [surgery]. Maybe it was teased, but it just never happened, just like me and Hogan never [happened]. Many things never happened. There’s so much good sh*t that did happen. Not everything can happen.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Austin spoke about why he had such good chemistry with Bret Hart. You can read more about that here.
