Summer Rae Says She Received A Standing Ovation From The McMahons After Her Promo On Rusev In 2015

Summer Rae reflects on some of her fondest moments in WWE.

Former WWE star Danielle Moinet or better known in the world of professional wrestling as "Summer Rae" was released from WWE in October of 2017 after spending six years with the company. Summer had the opportunity to compete on a WrestleMania card, work a match with one of her closest friends in Sasha Banks, be a part of Fandango's arrival on the main roster and was involved in several spotlighted storylines. One of those storylines involved Rusev, Lana and Dolph Ziggler.

All four were involved in a story in 2015 in-which Dolph Ziggler and Lana were on one side and Rusev and Summer were on the other. News soon leaked from TMZ that Lana and Rusev were actually married which took the fans out of the build. WWE writers felt that Summer's character would feel the backlash from the storyline because it would no longer have effect due to the majority of the fans knowing Rusev and Lana were married. She had the opportunity to do a promo on Rusev in October of 2015 after his match with Ryback and unleashed on the "Bulgarian Brute" and recalled the aforementioned information and story while sitting down with DS Shin of Ring The Belle.

“Higher powers that be were very upset [about Rusev and Lana’s marriage leaking]. They thought I was the one that would suffer from this. So they were just like, ‘It’s not fair. Would you like to write your own promo? Would you like to sit down…’ and it was actually me, it was Jimmy Jacobs’ first or second week. Jimmy Jacobs was brand new. We sat in the stands and we wrote it so I'm really proud of it and honestly to be fair, he kind of was only there to -- I guess to give me a little help or ‘No, Vince would like that, Vince wouldn’t’ -- but he was still kind of new too so I wrote the whole thing. It was easy to memorize because I wrote it and I loved it." She shared. "You kind of blackout a little when you’re really in the moment and out there, and so when I watched it back, I didn’t realize they did not play my music on the out. The crowd was so loud and it was in Chicago and I’m like a big Bears fan and that’s where I lived for seven years. Like if I ever returned, I’ll be in Chicago, spoiler alert." Summer laughed. "In that moment, I was so proud that a girl didn’t have to play something on the out and when I went in the back, it was standing ovations -- Stephanie, Vince, I don’t know if Hunter was back there but definitely Armstrong, everyone was back there, everyone’s standing and I was proud of it.”
