Swerve Strickland: I Never Looked To Do Bigger And Better, Just Different And More Unique

Swerve Strickland speaks on his evolution in wrestling.
Over the past few years, Swerve Strickland has become a major name for AEW. He’s headlined multiple shows, won the AEW World Title, and brought out a different version of himself.
Speaking with Simon Miller, Swerve Strickland was asked about this evolution of his. Swerve said that he’s never gone for a “bigger and better” approach, as he always tries to do things differently than before.
“As far as the evolution, it was like I never looked to do bigger and better. I just looked to do different and more unique. Because you can get into your head very big time as a performer, as an athlete about, ‘Oh, we got to do better. We got to do bigger. We got to do bigger and better than last time.’ Sometimes you’ll stunt the growth of the creative process and the performance itself. Fans will sniff out that you’re trying to outperform something. But if you just stay true and authentic … It has to come from [my heart] for me. If it’s not coming from here, then it shows. We have the most demanding fan base in wrestling. You don’t ever want them to sniff that out.”
In another interview, Swerve Strickland discussed his AEW All In 2026 plans. Fans can check his comments here.
