Dr. Britt Baker, DMD., is a heel on the rise posing a major threat to the status-queue within the AEW Women's Division. As one of the first women showcased for AEW, Britt Baker has been making her way up the official AEW rankings. Her heel turn in AEW and her subsequent injuries only added fuel to her already burning untapped potential as a top star in the company leading to her being prominently featured. A fire that has now found a new forward gaining trajectory - the AEW Women's Championship Title.
This week, Dr. Britt Baker finds herself in the top ranked position at number one. Baker's record being eight wins and one loss would see her trailed closely behind by her rival, former NWA Women's Champion Thunder Rosa. In recent weeks that highly sought after top spot was occupied by former WWE Superstar and Dark Order member Tay Conti. Conti recently went up the ranks to become ranked number one and Wrestler of the Week culminating in her televised title match against the current reigning and defending AEW Women's Champion Hikaru Shida. The loss suffered by Tay Conti opened the door for the feuding duo of Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker to surpass her claiming the number one and two spots this week.
With AEW expanding their programming there are multiple opportunities for Britt Baker to add to her lead over Thunder Rosa whose right behind Baker with one extra loss on her AEW record. The two have been feuding for the better part of six months and more. All of which came to a head on AEW's St. Patrick Day Slam episode of AEW Dynamite on TnT which highlighted the two in their feud as the Main Event on live TV in an unsanctioned Lights Out match. That match surprised fans with Thunder Rosa gaining the upper hand over AEW's top heel in their Women's Division. But as Britt Baker, covered in blood, reminded Thunder Rosa, she was in error if she thought this was the last of Britt Baker. She may have won, but Thunder Rosa left Baker still breathing. Still able to fight to see a new day in AEW.
That new day has already begun and Britt Baker continues her dominance as the Role Model with her BFF Rebel in toe and crutch in hand. As Britt Baker continues to rise, she aims to capture the one thing in AEW that has always been just out of reach - the AEW Women's Championship Title. A title currently held by Hikaru Shida. Baker has made it plain that she plans on becoming he next AEW Women's Champion and will be the one to dethrone the longest reigning AEW Champion in AEW history. An incredible accomplishment that has yet to be achieved by any other competitor that has come to square off against Shida herself. From Big Swole to the NWA Women's Champion Serena Deeb to Abadon, Nyla Rose, Penelope Ford, and Tay Conti, none have succeeded and therefore far more worth the earning as far as Britt Baker is concerned.
As this week comes to a close and a new one ushers in, time will tell how Dr. Britt Baker, DMD., plans to do what others have failed to do. Will Baker play cat and mouse claiming rented space inside Hikaru Shida's head for the next few months? An act that may slowly wear down Shida making her vulnerable and emotional as she enters a bot with Baker… How will Thunder Rosa play into an exchange between Shida and Baker? Could Thunder Rosa prove to be a valuable insurance policy at ringside for Shida to cancel out Rebel? With more questions than answers looming, Britt Baker's intent is clear - championship gold! The coveted AEW Women's Championship. The pinnacle seat at the top of the division. As she's proven not to be above mind games, one has to wonder who'll gain the upper hand as Baker gets closer and closer to Shida and her title run as the longest AEW Champion. With other worthy competitors not too far behind her, Baker's number one ranking position could be in jeopardy sooner rather than later as she enters AEW's Blood and Guts on May 5th.
