Taichi said he felt ill after returning to Tokyo and was running a high fever. He is doing better now.

Taichi competed at both nights of Wrestling Dontaku, besting Tama Tonga in a ladder match for the Iron Fingers on May 3 and then teaming with DOUKI and Zack Sabre Jr to defeat Jado, Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa on May 4.

On May 4, NJPW made changes to night two of its Wrestling Dontaku card with Okada, SHO, YOH, Minoru Suzuki, El Desperado, and Yoshinobu Kanemaru being pulled from the event. The promotion stated they were undergoing thorough examination and PCR and antibody testing.

NJPW paused events following nine positive COVID-19 tests and Japan declaring a state of emergency. Live events have resumed for NJPW, but Taichi is not part of the current lineup. The report states that Taichi wanted to be part of the current tour, but Zack Sabre Jr thought it was better that they rest.

It is unknown when he will return to the ring.
