Tama Tonga: WWE Is Knocking Hard On My Door

Tama Tonga is ready to open new doors.

Fresh off his victory over El Phantasmo at NJPW The New Beginning in Osaka, Tama Tonga is ready for new challenges. Tonga is the reigning NEVER Openweight Champion, winning the belt from Karl Anderson at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.

Speaking to Tokyo Sports, Tonga said WWE is currently knocking at his door.

"I'm always the guy at the top. Look what I have accomplished in my short career in Japan. I started the best unit ever, the Bullet Club. I was ostracized. Nobody believed me. But that's okay. All you need is yourself. All you need is to believe in yourself," he said. "I will be the best wrestler. It could be the ultimate legend of New Japan Pro Wrestling, or it could be WWE, because WWE is knocking hard on my door. And I might say, 'Hello.'"

Fightful Select reported on January 7 that WWE had express interest in Tonga. Tonga has had previous offers from WWE, but turned them down to work NJPW with his brother Tanga Loa.

Fightful Select also reported that WWE had interest in Hikuleo, who defeated Jay White in a Loser Leaves Japan match at NJPW New Beginning in Osaka.
