Tamina: A Lot Of People Take For Granted Holding A Championship, Now I Can Say I'm A Champion

Nearly eleven years after her debut, Tamina has won her first major title in WWE.

On the May 14 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Tamina and Natalya defeated Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax to become the new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions. They had been chasing the belts for two months, falling short at WrestleMania, but earning their way back into contention by defeating Jax and Baszler, respectively, in singles competition.

WWE cameras caught Tamina and Natalya's emotional first moments with the titles backstage.

"I think a lot of people take it for granted," said Tamina, "what it's like to hold a championship title or to sit there and actually say that you are a champion. Now I can actually say I'm a champion. Man, I'm so grateful. I feel so grateful, so blessed. Just never giving up. Just keep on going forward and look at what happens, you get to achieve something you've always wanted to have. We did it. I couldn't have done it without her, man. This is crazy. So grateful. I'm so happy."

In the two days since their victory, there has been an outpouring of love for both women from those in and around the wrestling community.

Tamina held the 24/7 title briefly at Hell in a Cell 2019, but otherwise, it took 4008 days since her 2010 debut to win a major Championship. Her father, Jimmy Snuka, never held a Championship in WWE. She and her brother, Deuce of Deuce 'n Domino, are now the only brother and sister who can each say that they have been WWE Tag Team Champions.

As for Natalya, this is only her third title win during her 13-year tenure on WWE's main roster. She previously held the Divas Championship and the SmackDown Women's Championship.
