Taya Valkyrie: If The Roster Has Enough Depth, There Should Be Multiple Women's Titles

Taya Valkyrie says that there should be more women's titles in wrestling if the rosters are deep enough.

Valkyrie currently holds several titles, including the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship, the MLW World Women's Featherweight Championship, and the Impact Knockouts World Tag Team Championship. She also competes in the NWA, which recently announced the upcoming arrival of the NWA Women's TV Championship.

Speaking with Steve Fall of NBC Sports Boston, Valkyrie was asked whether more companies should have secondary singles titles in their women's divisions. She responded by noting that, as long as the roster has the depth for it, there should be more opportunities for women to be champions. Valkyrie also pointed out that there are often multiple titles for the men.

“Yeah, I feel like the roster, if the roster’s deep enough, which it is at NWA, I mean there are so many fabulous women wrestlers that need the opportunity, that are clawing their way to the top to get recognition, so I think this is just another opportunity for a woman to do that. In the world of wrestling, there are several men’s championships, so I think 100% there should be opportunities for more women to be champions to prove that they belong," Valkyrie said.

Fall brought up the possibility of having the number of women's matches equal that of the men's division, and she stated that women have certainly proven themselves by now, so they deserve the same opportunities.

“Absolutely. We have come so far over the last decade or two in this industry, and women are proving that we can main-event pay-per-views, we can main-event television shows, that we can draw, that we make money, and that we are badasses. I feel like we should be given the opportunity just like anyone else. If I’m doing the same amount of work, if I’m busting my ass to get that recognition just like a guy would be, why can’t I get that level of recognition as well?" she said.

Valkyrie will aim to add to her collection of titles when she challenges Kamille for the NWA World Women's Championship at NWA 74. More information is available here.
