Tessa Blanchard: WOW Is The Biggest Platform For Women's Wrestling, We're Changing The Status Quo

Women of Wrestling is set to return in 2022 with Jeanie Buss, Tessa Blanchard and The Beast at the forefront.

Buss is the controlling owner and president of the Los Angeles Lakers and being one of the most powerful women in a male-dominated sport, she wanted to use her platform to help spotlight females in wrestling.

The Elite: We're Getting AEW Back To What It Was Supposed To Be

"There are so many female athletes that don't get a chance to shine. People in a position like mine have to invest in opportunities for women to compete and shine and to show us what they got [Tessa and Beast] deserve the spotlight and deserve to be seen. This is a passion project and I'm so happy with our partnership with Viacom CBS, it's a dream come true," Buss said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Blanchard left IMPACT Wrestling in June 2020 after being stripped of the IMPACT World Title when she didn't show up for events during the pandemic era. She was one of the faces of WOW Superheroes during its latest season.

She said about WOW's return, "In my own experiences, professional wrestling has been my life since before I was born. My father, my grandfather, and with that, I followed my passion and it's taken me all over the world. I've gotten to live in different countries, win championship titles all over the world, but now with WOW, this is, without a doubt, the biggest platform for women's wrestling in history. In history. To be a part of it, it's a testament that we're changing the status quo for women's wrestling, for professional wrestling altogether. It's such a blessing to be a part of it."

The Beast is the reigning WOW, defeating Blanchard during season six of the show. She agreed with Tessa's comments about WOW before adding, "Underneath all this, I'm muscle, I'm tattoos. I don't look like your normal and standard female. WOW gives me the opportunity to be who I am unapologetic. We have women from all walks of life, from corporate to blue-collar and we all get a chance to be who we are and shine the way we are and be strong and be who we want to be."

AJ Lee (AJ Mendez) will serve as the executive producer of the relaunch.
