The Dogs Reflect On Chain Match Against Bang Bang Gang, Didn’t Have A Long Time To Work On It
At AEW Redemption, the Dogs (David Finlay & Clark Connors) took on the Bang Bang Gang (Jay White & Juice Robinson) in a double chain match.
The Dogs won, but the match was not well-received by fans.
Appearing on What Happened When with Tony Schiavone and Conrad Thompson, the duo looked back on the match. Thompson kicked off the conversation by saying it was “brutal” when describing the physicality of the match.
Finlay: “Yeah, it was brutal, alright”
[Finlay and Connors laugh]Schiavone: “You had a long time to work on it, too, I understand.”
Finlay: “Uhhhh, no.”
Connors: [Sarcastically] “Oh yeah, absolutely, Tony.”
Finlay: “No, not at all.”
[Both continue to laugh]Schiavone: “I thought it was a good match. You’re probably thinking, ‘We should’ve done this. We should’ve done that. Maybe we should’ve done something else.'”
Finlay: “Something else would’ve been great.”
Connors: “We shouldn’t have done it.”
[Dogs keep laughing]Thompson: “It was a car crash of violence, for sure.”
Finlay: “If you want violence, we’re your guys. We’re good at violence.”
Connors: “It’s one of those things where a match like that, sometimes you want to do it differently. You look where you are on the card, you see what else is on the show. We’re old school like that. We don’t want to take away from a deathmatch later on in the show. We wanted to do it our way. We were happy with what we did with it. I took the best bump anyone has ever seen, but no one fucking saw it because they missed the camera cut.”
Finlay: “It was incredible.”
Connors: “I fell off the top rope onto the steel steps. It made Darby look like some jabroni. Beautiful bump.”
Schiavone: “That is old school, not wanting to take away from another match on the card.”
Finlay: “We kind of approached it with, ‘Let’s use the tools we’ve been given and stick within those parameters. Sometimes that works out, sometimes it makes it a little more difficult or doesn’t feel as rewarding after. ‘Ah, we should’ve been selfish.'”
Connors: “It’s also about setting expectations. It’s a double chain match. It’s a blood feud. People come in and they are expecting something. I still feel happy with the product we put out there, but you also think back on stuff, ‘That could’ve been better.’ It’s a learning experience. All fun. Getting hit with a chain is not fun. It sucks, actually. It’s miserable.”
