The Young Bucks Comment On The ‘Pipe Dream’ Of Buying PWG, Wanting To Run An Indie After Their In-Ring Careers
The Young Bucks, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson, talk about the idea of buying PWG and their wish to run an independent wrestling promotion in California after their full-time careers in mainstream wrestling are over.
Today, the Young Bucks, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson, are recognized as the founding fathers of AEW, but for a long time, they were the beating heart of the independent wrestling scene, especially in California and in PWG. Matt Jackson has said in the past that if PWG were for sale, he would immediately put in an offer. He’s also said in the past that he tried to buy PWG once.
Now, during an interview on the Battleground Podcast, Matt and Nick Jackson opened up about wanting to buy PWG or at least start their own promotion to help revitalize the SoCal wrestling scene.
“The PWG thing is definitely a pipe dream. I would love to have further discussions about it. Nick and I have always talked about doing some independent or something once our career wraps up with mainstream wrestling like AEW, and we have more time at home. I think that’d be something that we would definitely be interested in doing. Because we love the business, we love it, and I think we were very creative guys, so it might be weird to just sit at home and do nothing. So I think it’d be, I think that’s something that we’ve never really gotten to — I mean, we’ve done it. We used to run an independent way back when, but I think now we’re different. We’re different people. We have more experience now, and we actually have money that we can put into the thing. Back then, it was like, what was our budget? $500, so I think that it’s definitely something that we’ll probably try out. I don’t know when, maybe the next few years,” said Matt.
Nick Jackson added, “Yeah, I think it would be good for the independent scene, especially in Southern California. Yeah, SoCal has kind of dried up as of late, and usually that’s like a hotbed. So I feel like with our influence, we could help the indie scene around there. I would love to do something like that. I’ve always talked about doing something like that., who knows when, but it is a pipe dream.
Matt concluded, “Whether we call it PWG or it’s a whole different wrestling company name, I think that our goal would be to kind of carry the torch of what PWG started and to have a company that falls into the spirit of what Pro Wrestling Guerrilla was for all those years. I think there is an empty void in Southern California independent wrestling right now that I think we can help fill.”
Currently, Matt and Nick Jackson are getting ready to face Jack Perry and Luchasaurus at AEW WrestleDream. Check out the full card here.
