Title Match Announced For Next Week's SmackDown

The September 26 episode of SmackDown Live will have a huge main event, as it was announced that Dean Ambrose will get his WWE World Championship rematch against AJ Styles.

SmackDown general manager Daniel Bryan said that Ambrose will face AJ Styles for the title live from Cleveland next week. Ambrose defeated John Cena in the main event of this week’s SmackDown. Styles attacked Ambrose after the match, which was followed by Bryan’s announcement. This will be Styles’ first defense as the WWE World Champion.

Styles is also scheduled to defend his title against Ambrose and John Cena in a Triple Threat match at the October 9th WWE No Mercy pay-per-view from Sacramento. Styles beat Ambrose for his first WWE title at the Backlash pay-per-view on September 11.

Ambrose had held the title since cashing in his Money in the Bank pay-per-view on Seth Rollins earlier in the summer at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view. Cena has not held a world title since holding the WWE World Heavyweight Champion back in 2014.

It will be the second SmackDown in a row to feature a championship match. Earlier in the night, The Miz retained his Intercontinental Title against Dolph Ziggler in a rematch from Backlash.
