Tito Ortiz is coming for all the WWE glory against Alberto Del Rio and beyond.
On Dec. 7, Tito Ortiz will step into the cage against Alberto Del Rio in a real MMA fight that's actually happening in 2019 under the Combate Americas banner. Ortiz will put his former UFC Light Heavyweight Title on the line while Del Rio will put his former WWE Championship on the line. The winner will become the ultimate champ champ.
Speaking on Submission Radio, Ortiz expressed his excitement over his chance to be WWE Champion.
"That's why I put in an 18-week camp. To have a WWE Heavyweight Championship belt. I beat the guy who won one. People don't get it because they're not big fans of WWE, like me. I could name so many WWE wrestlers that I've looked up to. I've taken so many small pieces of their career and added to mine. From Hulk Hogan to Stone Cold Steve Austin to Dwayne Johnson [The Rock]. So many guys I've watched through my career. I was willing to sacrifice one of my titles and it just makes me that much more hungry. It feels like a World Championship fight. It feels like I'm fighting for my title, my name, my legacy. Against Alberto Del Rio, I plan on being WWE World Heavyweight Champion," he said.
The current WWE Championship is held by Brock Lesnar, who is also a former UFC Heavyweight Champion. Once Ortiz has his hands around Del Rio's belt, he'll be ready to go after Lesnar and his title.
"Brock Lesnar is in trouble, all those guys are in trouble. I win this title, I'm coming after their title. It ain't gonna stop until then because I'm gonna live my dream as this American dream continues on. I will be the Heavyweight Champion of WWE. Just wait. Give me time. It's gonna happen."
Along with aspirations of facing Lesnar, Ortiz also discussed the possibility of fighting Cain Velasquez. Velasquez retired from the sport to join WWE on a full-time basis in October. But should he want another fight, Ortiz would welcome the challenge.
"If Cain can get down to 205, I'm in. Cain is an awesome champion, Heavyweight Champion of UFC. He's a great fighter. He hasn't fought in a while, but if that's the next opponent then let it be."
Before Ortiz can think about Lesnar, Velasquez, 'The Fiend,' or anyone else, he must first get past Del Rio on Saturday.
