At NXT Halloween Havoc, Tommaso Ciampa defended his NXT Championship against Bron Breakker.
Though NXT dropped the Rex Steiner name for Breakker, he is in fact the son of Rick Steiner and "dog-faced gremlin" references have been made regarding Breakker.
Speaking to Alex McCarthy of TalkSPORT, Ciampa revealed that Steiner was supposed to make an appearance at NXT Halloween Havoc.
"So, he was meant to be at Halloween Havoc. He pulled out last minute. Maybe because I retained, but I won’t say that’s why [laughs]. I would love to be friends with him. I said to Bron ‘I don’t want to meet your dad, I want him to be my buddy.’ I want us to exchange numbers and whatever Rick Steiner does. He’s probably not a big phone guy, I don’t know [laughs]. But I just wanna be friends with him," he said.
Ciampa was victorious in the bout against Breakker, successfully retaining his NXT Championship.
Ciampa has continued to defense his NXT Title on the current WWE UK Tour in triple threat matches against Breakker and Sami Zayn.
