Gargano and Ciampa are tied together forever because of their work on NXT.
Tonight is NXT WarGames. In the main event, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano will team up one more time as they're joined by Pete Dunne and LA Knight to go against the NXT 2.0 quartet of Bron Breakker, Carmelo Hayes, Tony D'Angelo, and Grayson Waller.
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa made their names in NXT alongside one another. The team that would eventually be known as #DIY, was part of the first Dusty Rhodes Classic Tag Team Tournament. Eventually, they'd face each other in the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016 before going on to defeat The Revival (FTR) for the NXT Tag Team Championship at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in 2016.
In 2017, the pair began a rivalry that would develop into one of the defining blood-feuds of NXT's black and gold era.
Along the way to NXT WarGames 2021, they would fight and reunite several times over. While both Johnny and Tommaso have been adamantly devoted to NXT. The brief time that either man spent on the main roster of WWE was as a tag team when both were briefly called up along with Aleister Black and Ricochet on The Road to WrestleMania 35.
Johnny Gargano’s contract with WWE expired at the start of December and he signed a one-week contract extension in order to compete at this event and compete inside WarGames for the first time ever.
Ahead of NXT WarGames, Tommaso Ciampa has shared a message on social media saying that in case WarGames is the last time he ever shares a ring with Johnny Gargano, he is grateful to his frenemy.
Fightful will have live coverage of NXT WarGames as it airs on Peacock in the United States and on the WWE Network internationally on December 5, 2021.
