Tommaso Ciampa: "This Women’s Evolution Started In NXT"

The NXT Champion gives his take on WWE's women's evolution.

The evolution of women's wrestling in WWE is reaching levels that former and current stars of the company have gone on record saying that they couldn't have imagined what it has become. This past Sunday in the men's Royal Rumble match, former RAW Women's Champion Nia Jax mixed it up with the men and took a Superkick, a 619 and an RKO before being eliminated from the match. Women in WWE are regularly main eventing shows and those who watch the current product are behind the idea of Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey main eventing WrestleMania 35.

Tommy Dreamer Issues Statement Regarding Dark Side Of The Ring Comments

The current NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa traces the roots of the women's evolution in WWE to NXT and stated that Sasha Banks, Bayley and some of the NXT originals put the work in to set the stage for a Shayna Baszler and a Bianca Belair.

“This women’s evolution has been going on the last five years, and it started in NXT,” Ciampa said while speaking with 'The Independent'. “Bayley and Sasha Banks and all these great women before have raised the bar. Now we’re seeing it again. Shayna Baszler is legit, Jessamyn Duke. Now we have Bianca Belair. It’s a great group throughout. It’s what makes NXT so special. There is nothing like professional wrestling live let alone NXT. It’s the best live show that money can by.”

Tommaso further commented on NXT and added that it feels good to know that NXT is accomplishing something special and that they are the leaders in the wrestling industry right now.

“It feels good to know that NXT is accomplishing something very special,” Ciampa said. “This is something they’re going to remember forever. Our names are going to be written in the history books. It feels good to know we’re the leader in the entire industry right now.”

While mentioning Bianca Belair in this article, Sam Roberts made a few comments about Belair on the TakeOver: Phoenix pre-show which set the internet ablaze and on a recent edition of his podcast, Roberts explained why he is not going to apologize for what he said about Bianca and for more on that, click here.
