Tommy Dreamer Believes There Is Still Money In Abyss As A Performer

Tommy Dreamer discusses Abyss leaving IMPACT for WWE.

Many were shocked earlier this week when news broke that longtime TNA/IMPACT performer Abyss would be leaving the company to join WWE. Abyss had been with TNA/IMPACT since 2002 and was inducted into the IMPACT Wrestling Hall Of Fame this past year at Bound For Glory. He had been serving as a producer, while also continuing to appear on-screen for a feud with Eli Drake.

While nothing is official, Abyss is expected to join WWE as an agent/producer. However, if it were up to Tommy Dreamer, he would get a little money out of the Monster if he were Vince McMahon.

"I'd love to see him show up at the Royal Rumble. He deserves that," Dreamer told Busted Open Radio. "With wrestling, no one is entitled to a job forever. He earned his job. I texted him and he hasn't returned my text. So he's already in WWE mode. I would love (to see Abyss in the Rumble). The place would pop huge for him. There is money in Abyss as a performer. There always has been. If he takes a backstage role, great. But there's still money in that monster. I tried hiring him a long time ago and it was set for WrestleMania. Undertaker vs. Abyss. Now you have Braun Strowman or even Brock Lesnar. That could be something. But if they're using him backstage then there will be no crossover and Abyss will no longer be a performer."

With Abyss leaving IMPACT, Dreamer is expected to help out in a backstage role in his place.

WWE Royal Rumble takes place this Sunday from Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.
