Tony D’Angelo shares how his high school wrestling coach helped him get signed by WWE, recalling how the process got started.
Tony is the current NXT Champion, having been a member of the NXT roster for several years now. Prior to that, he was an amateur wrestler, having competed in high school and college. Like many pro wrestlers, this proved to be a path way for him to get signed to WWE.
While speaking to The Mark Moses Show in a new interview, Tony D’Angelo spoke about how he got into wrestling and how a high school coach ‘had an in’ with WWE for him.
“So I’ve always been, you know, an outgoing personality and I never said it. I was a fan, obviously, of The Rock and Stone Cold. I was just around, played the video games. But my teammates were actually like, ‘you’d be perfect for the WWE.’ Just because of my personality and my athleticism and all of it combined. I was like, ‘oh, yeah, maybe.’ Then when I got done with college wrestling, my high school coach, he called me and was like, ‘hey, man, I have an in. I know a couple of people that are in the WWE and they are interested if you want to’, because we had that conversation like six years prior. So it’s just funny how things work out.”
Earlier this year, Ricky Saints spoke about Tony’s NXT Title win. You can read more about that here.
