Tony Khan: An Acclaimed/Swerve In Our Glory Rematch Would Be Great At Grand Slam

Hypothetically speaking, AEW president Tony Khan thinks Grand Slam would be a great place to have a rematch between Swerve in our Glory (Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland) and The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster).

At AEW All Out, Strickland and Lee successfully defended the titles against Bowens and Caster. The match quickly became a buzzworthy contest, as the crowd passionately rallied around the challengers, who nearly won the bout on several occasions.

During a media scrum after the show, Khan noted that a rematch would be great for the New York crowd at Grand Slam.

Tony Khan: I personally think, with Grand Slam coming up, I can’t imagine a better match for New York than, hypothetically, a rematch between Keith & Swerve vs. The Acclaimed.

Strickland and Lee responded by noting that The Acclaimed stepped up on Sunday, and they made magc together.

Swerve Strickland: Why?

Keith Lee: They stepped up tonight.

Strickland: Why did they step up?

Lee: Sometimes, beautiful magic is made

Strickland: We’re the common denominator when it comes to magic. I don’t know how much more we have to keep proving to everybody.

Lee: They stepped up tonight. If this is the match, this is the match.

Khan emphasized that he thinks a rematch could be great, and people are already asking for it, and the champions responded again, with Lee noting that he'd like to see The Acclaimed put away the stereotypes and the jokes.

Khan: I’m just saying, I think it would be a great match and if people are asking me, I think it would be the best thing we could do at Grand Slam.

Strickland: They're asking because this is another fucking tag team that is coming up that says they want the belts on them rather than us. How many more times are we going to do that? Y’all want them to win? They’re not better than us. Did you hear the reaction?

Lee: It’s interesting that in our losses, we had to go down the ladder, but you want to do this rematch. I’m not going to speak to that. I will admit, I enjoyed the battle, they brought it, they stepped up. However, if they want to bring it properly, I would advise putting away the stereotypes, the silly raps, the jokes.

Strickland: Get Billy Gunn’s ass the fuck outta there while you’re at it.

Khan then noted that he'll take some time to think about it, while Strickland vowed to keep making history.

Khan: I need to take some time to think about it, but it would be a great match for Grand Slam and be great for the fans of New York. Tonight was a great milestone, one of the best matches we’ve had.

Strickland: By four African Americans. Making more history, that we’re going to keep doing.

Lee: Listen, if that’s what you want to do.

Khan: I’m just saying, it’s the world champions against the all-time wins leaders coming off one of the best matches in the history of the company. I think it would be something special.

Strickland: You pay the bills, do what you have to do. Don’t be surprised if somebody gets hurt.
