Tony Khan could not have been prouder to be the promoter of the first-ever match between The Young Bucks and FTR.
Full Gear 2020 played host to the dream match between Matt and Nick Jackson and the former Revival. After years of veiled shots at one another on the internet, these two teams finally got together and collectively wrote a large love letter to the past three decades of tag team wrestling.
From FTR, fans could see the inspiration from tag teams such as The Steiner Brothers, The Hart Foundation, Power & Glory, and The Four Horsemen. Meanwhile, Matt and Nick Jackson displayed moves made famous by The Hardy Boyz, The Dudley Boyz, and more.
Speaking on the post-show media scrum, AEW President Tony Khan praised the match that the four performers were able to put together and expressed the joy that he felt as the promoter of the dream match.
“Matt and Nick Jackson and FTR are four brilliant storytellers, and I thought that was one of the best tag team matches you're ever going to see, and I'm so proud that we had that on Full Gear and they had that match in front of a great crowd here in Jacksonville,” Tony began. “It was all the tag teams -- It was like a love letter to tag team wrestling. All the tag team finishes that they hit. All the storytelling of the selling of Matt's injury. Nick's great hot tag, the way that the crowd was just red hot, and then FTR just the absolute best heel tag team in the world. It was just so fun, the dichotomy of these teams and it is the dream match. It's been built up so long and it was so emotional. Again, I'm so glad that it happened in front of the biggest crowd we've had since the pandemic started, close to a thousand people, not including all the, you know, staff and extras and stuff.”
