Tony Khan: I Won't Be The One To Pull The Plug On Sting's Career

Tony Khan won't be the one to tell Sting to stop.

Sting came to AEW at AEW Winter Is Coming 2020, immediately linking up with Darby Allin. He got back in the ring for the first time since 2015 at AEW Revolution 2021 in a cinematic match, and then got back in the ring properly at AEW Double or Nothing 2021.

Sting is undefeated in AEW, and despite being 64 years old, is still putting on well-received performances.

Speaking on the AEW All In media call, Tony Khan was asked if he's had discussions about Sting sticking around past his current contract, which expires this year.

"Sting is very well aware that I would like him to stay as long as he feels physically up to wrestling. I think he enjoys doing it and he's having a lot of fun. Sometimes you hit on things in life that you think are going to be good and they turn out to be great. For me, a good example of that is Sting and Darby together. Not just on screen, but off-screen too," he said.

Tony said he suggested to Sting that he be paired with Darby Allin and is glad Sting was open to the suggestion.

He went on to highlight some of Sting's best moments in AEW, including AEW Dynamite Grand Slam against FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler), his matches at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, and more. Tony noted that he hopes his moments in AEW will stand up there with some of the best moments throughout his career.

Tony continued by saying, "There have been so many great memories for Sting in AEW. I don't want it to end. I won't be the one to pull the plug on it. When the time comes, Sting knows he needs to the one to say, 'I don't want to do this anymore,' because I'm going to let him go as long as he wants. I want him to stay as long as he can. It's so important to me that we let Sting finish his career the right way."

Sting is scheduled to team with Darby Allin to take on Swerve Strickland & AR Fox in a coffin match at AEW All In.
