Tony Khan On Bidding $6.9 Billion For WWE In 2023: I Thought It Was A Very Reasonable Number

When WWE went up for sale in 2023, the company was eventually purchased by Endeavor, leading to the merger with UFC and the formation of TKO.
It was later reported by Brandon Thurston of POST Wrestling that Base 10 made a bid for $6.9 billion.
Base 10 is the owner of All Elite Wrestling, a professional wrestling promotion that plainly would enjoy significant synergies with WWE.
Speaking to Jonathan Coachman and Vince Russo on Coach & Bro, AEW President Tony Khan was asked about his involvement in the bidding process.
“I was very interested in the process and if there was going to be a sale, I at least wanted to have a chance to be involved. If it had gone for any less than that, I would have really kicked myself.
“While respecting the confidentiality of that, I would say that I don’t have any complaints about that process from my side that I would want to talk about right now. I do think there was some stuff to that and while respecting the confidentiality of the whole thing, I would also say that, at the time, just reiterating, if it had gone for any less, I would have beat myself up. Why wouldn’t you put in a bid? I thought that was a very reasonable number.”
Endeavor made a bid for $8.5 billion.
Shareholders would later file a lawsuit against WWE and Vince McMahon alleging that McMahon predetermined the transaction with Endeavor to secure his continued role at the company in light of the sexual misconduct scandal surrounding him, rather than shopping WWE to maximize shareholder value.
