Tony Khan Says He Avoided Doing Kris Statlander vs. Toni Storm Singles Match Until The Time Was Right

Khan wanted to do the bout when the time was right.

Coming up on October 18th is AEW’s WrestleDream pay-per-view from St. Louis, Missouri. One of the matches on the marquee is Kris Statlander defending the AEW Women’s World Championship against ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm. It’ll be their first singles match against each other in AEW.

Statlander won the title by pinning Storm in a four-way match at the All Out pay-per-view. During the pre-WrestleDream media call, AEW President Tony Khan stated that he avoided doing a singles match between Storm and Statlander until the time was right.

“We’ve got another great former World Champion, ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm, taking on the AEW World Champion Kris Statlander. That is the first time they’ve ever wrestled one-on-one, and it is by design. That has always been a match that I knew would be a major match on a major event, and when the time was right, it would be one of the biggest matches I think we could put on and I’m really excited for it. I think they’ve been doing fantastic work in the promos.”

Storm and Statlander exchanged their final words on the three-hour Dynamite/Collision special. To get a recap of the segment, check out Fightful’s review of the show.
