Tony Khan: The First Person Who Really Took The Idea Of AEW Seriously Was At First Matt Jackson

Tony Khan says Matt Jackson was the first person who took the idea of AEW seriously.

Tony Khan says Matt Jackson, then Nick Jackson, were the first people who took the idea of AEW seriously.

In 2019, AEW would launch as an alternative promotion to WWE, and six years later, the company has just put on their biggest US show to date with AEW All In 2025. Two men who would be named as EVP’s of the company were The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson), and Tony Khan has now noted that the pair were the first two to take the idea of AEW seriously.

While speaking during the AEW All In 2025 Post Show Media Scrum, Tony briefly discussed Matt and Nick Jackson, noting that first Matt, then Nick, were the first people who took the idea of All Elite Wrestling seriously.

“The first person who really took the idea of AEW seriously was at first Matt, and then Matt put me on the phone with Nick and that was, literally, seven years ago. Over seven years ago. Matt and I talked for a long time, I want to say July 3rd of 2018, for 35-40 minutes the night before Fourth of July.”

At AEW All In, Matt and Nick Jackson would lose their EVP status at the event after losing a tag team bout with Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay. You can read more about that here.

The brothers would also make their presence known in the main event of the pay-per-view, attempting to cost Hangman Page the AEW World Title. You can read about Hangman Page’s reaction to the main event of All In here.
