Tony Khan: Sting Is Like The Tom Cruise Of Wrestling

Sting wrapped up his career at AEW Revolution 2024, teaming with Darby Allin against The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson).

Sting made a habit of jumping from high places during his final run in AEW, whether it was off balconies or ladders, willing to put his body on the line into his sixties.

“Sting and Darby Allin versus the Young Bucks at AEW Revolution, I think, is the greatest retirement match ever and I think Sting really did the work on the retirement run. Sting, to me, is like the Tom Cruise of pro wrestling. You know how Tom Cruise in recent years has become this insane stunt man, the greatest stunt actor of all time. That was Sting in his final years. Everybody who has ever watched a movie knows Tom Cruise. Everybody who has ever watched a wrestling match knows Sting. They both, into their 60s, they kind of still look the same. They both went really hard and became crazy stunt men and did, I think, the best work of their career into their 60s,” said Tony Khan while speaking to Rich Eisen on the Rich Eisen Show.

“The Icon” made a surprise appearance at AEW All In 2024, but otherwise has remained off AEW TV since his retirement match.

Darby Allin made his return to AEW TV at AEW All In 2025, targeting Jon Moxley and the Death Riders, who took him out of action in December.
