Trick Williams explains why he hasn’t continued the US title open challenge of previous champions, noting that’s how life works.

Prior to becoming the WWE United States Champion earlier this year, Trick Williams would watch as Carmelo Hayes and Sami Zayn would defend the title in open challenges. However, once Trick captured the title for the first time, he would halt the open challenges.

While speaking to The Tap Out Tea in a new interview, Trick Williams explained why he stopped doing the US Title Open Challenge.

“Because that’s how life works. You don’t get no handouts in life. Nobody’s just knocking at your door and say, ‘hey, I have a championship opportunity for you. Do you want it? Here, come.’ No, man, you gotta prove yourself. What do you have to offer me? What do you have to offer Tric Williams and the brand? Are you the best thing for SmackDown? Are people gonna wanna see you versus me? You know what I mean? So you have to know your worth and be able to raise the standard of everything because, hey, if everybody gets a chance, then what are you saying? You know what I mean? I don’t want it to be that title, whatever title Trick Williams wants or has, I want that to be the main title.”

Williams recently regained the US Title, defeating Baron Corbin at WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event. You can read more about that here.
