Triple H And Shawn Michaels: We Didn't Want To Put MSK In A Box

Since making their NXT debut in January, MSK (Wes Lee & Nash Carter) have taken the yellow brand by storm.

The duo not only won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, they would go on to capture the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Speaking on the NXT TakeOver: In Your House post-show media call, Triple H and Shawn Michaels were asked about the influence D-Generation X may have had on MSK.

"We just let them be them," said Triple H.

Shawn Michaels added, "I was talking to them yesterday and what they seem to enjoy about us is that we haven't tried to change them. They've talked about how we let them be them and we allow them to have fun and enjoy themselves and get the most out of what they do. We try to make it a relaxed atmosphere and we don't put anybody in a box around here, as best we can. We always knew what we liked when we were working and when we were challenged and encouraged. The best advice we ever got was 'go out there. If you go too far, I'll pull you back.' That's what we encourage people to do here. Go ahead and take risks and experiment. If we start asking to dial it back, we're worried someone is going to kick us off the air. We encourage talent to make the most of themselves."

Triple H finished off by saying, "The other aspect is knowing when something is a crutch. A certain character trait or something that they do where you feel like, 'they are better than this or they are beyond that, but that's what they've done and are comfortable doing.' That's the hardest thing. That growth is difficult and hard to face. Sometimes, you have to push them outside of that comfort zone of them just wanting them to be what they've been before and you want to encourage them to get to a different place and doing something new. When you challenge them to that, I find that 99% of the time, they love that and they get out there."

MSK have been influenced by D-Generation X in some ways as they previously revealed that they asked Sean Waltman to use the bronco buster as part of their arsenal. You can find their full comments, and Waltman's response, by clicking here.

MSK teamed with Bronson Reed to defeat Legado del Fantasmo in a six-man tag team match to retain the NXT Tag Team Titles at NXT TakeOver: In Your House. If you missed anything from In Your House, check out Fightful's full report on the show by clicking here.
