WWE will make history this Sunday with WWE Evolution, the first-ever all-women's pay-per-view. One man who helped bring women's wrestling to the forefront of the WWE is Triple H, the visionary of NXT and the Mae Young Classic.
Speaking to KC Joyner of ESPN, Triple H discussed the historic event and how he wants to men and women to be equal by not doing a show like Evolution all the time.
"To me, if you segregate it, then it's not equal. I agree with it in theory for the Evolution one -- I love that concept. I love doing it and to do one [women's only pay-per-view] here or there, I think it's great. I don't think it should be an all-the-time thing," said Triple H. "To me, the variety of what we do is what makes it great. If everything is the same, then it's ehh [shrugs shoulders]. If you have a seven-to-ten match card, that's a big card, if half of them are women and half of them are guys, that's cool. I really do not think that's a stretch or implausible at all. I think that depth to me makes it more exciting. I'm a believer that you don't have to see every single thing every single time on every pay-per-view we do, and that it should be spread out a bit. Maybe you don't see the same people on the next pay-per-view. [The shows should] be different, but still be able to give the fans that same level of quality and same level of, 'Oh my god, I have to see that.' I think that's doable."
NXT is often praised for their variety as it's a one-hour show where not everyone appears on a week-to-week basis. WWE has a harder time getting away with that on the main roster where five hours of television has to be filled across two shows.
Even the booking of WWE Evolution has faced criticism for how the matches have come together and the majority of the women's roster being thrown into a battle royal. For example, WWE SmackDown superstars weren't fans of having only one match representing their brand on the show.
WWE Evolution takes place this Sunday in Long Island, New York. Fightful will provide live coverage of the event and Sean Ross Sapp will be joined by Trina and Latoya Ferguson for the post-show podcast.
