Triple H talks about Gunther vs AJ Styles at this week’s Royal Rumble event.
At the Royal Rumble event this coming weekend, Gunther will face AJ Styles in a match with Styles’ WWE career on the line, with their storyline beginning in the wake of Gunther submitting John Cena in December of last year in what would be Cena’s final match.
While speaking to ESPN in a new interview ahead of the 2026 Royal Rumble event, Triple H spoke about the upcoming match with Styles and Gunther, noting that a lot of people took Gunther submitting Cena badly.
“Yeah, John Cena retiring at the hands of Gunther, and not only retiring, but Gunther made him do the one thing John said he would never do, which is he made him quit, he made him tap out. A lot of people took that badly. Gunther’s been bragging about it. AJ Styles took that as disrespect, and Styles put his own career on the line if he cannot beat Gunther this Saturday at the Royal Rumble. So the stakes could not be any bigger. AJ Styles’ legendary career on the line if he loses, that’s it.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Triple H spoke about his favorite Royal Rumble memory. You can read more about that here.
