Triple H: Vince McMahon Felt That Me Starting WWE WrestleMania 38 With Retirement Announcement Was A 'Downer'

Levesque viewed it as a triumphant moment.

To start night two of WrestleMania 38 at AT&T Stadium, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul 'Triple H' Levesque appeared and formally announced his retirement from in-ring competition. That came after he underwent a cardiac procedure for a heart issue that he's since fully recovered from.

That moment at WrestleMania 38 was discussed by Levesque on the newest episode of Stephanie's Places. He shared that former WWE CEO Vince McMahon viewed opening the show with that announcement as a 'downer.' Levesque saw it as a triumphant moment because he overcame the health issue.

“The moment in Dallas (at WrestleMania 38), Vince (McMahon) asked me to go open the show. The idea of going and putting my boots in the ring was not what he had in mind. Like, ‘Why do you wanna -- I gotta open the show with a downer,’ and I said, ‘I don’t see it as a downer. I see it as kind of a triumphant moment. I’m back.”

On the Vince McMahon front, on May 7th, an update was provided on the sex trafficking lawsuit that was filed against McMahon, WWE and John Laurinaitis by former WWE employee Janel Grant. A judge allowed Grant's updated version of her lawsuit against the defendants and a decision was made to hold off on discovery in the case.
