Triple H Wants To Do A Women's Tournament, Reveals Target Time Frame

After the success of both the Cruiserweight Classic and the United Kingdom Championship Tournament, it looks like the women might be next to get in on the action.

Triple H recently appeared on the Wrestling Compadres Slamcast, and when asked about the rumored women’s tournament, he not only said they have plans for one, he even gave a timeframe. Summer 2017.

“That’s another of my big passions (a women’s tournament) but things are always changing. Raw and Smackdown split, NXT Takeovers are attached to big four PPVs. We have to find the right time and space. The UK tournament worked out in the small break before the Rumble. The women, we’re hoping to do this summer. That’s the plan. Like the Cruisers, we want to search all over and expose talent to our audience.”

The Cruiserweight Classic consisted of 32 competitors from all over the world, and was filmed at Full Sail University, the same venue that hosts NXT. The episodes were broadcast weekly over two months, and only the semi-finals and finals were seen Live on the WWE Network. By contrast, the UK Title Tournament featured sixteen contestants and was broadcast Live over a single weekend. No indication yet which format the WWE would prefer for a potential Women's Tournament.
