Trish Stratus: WWE SummerSlam Was Supposed To Be My Comeback, But It Turned Into My Farewell

Trish Stratus discusses her match with Charlotte Flair.

At last night's WWE SummerSlam, Trish Stratus had her swan song in her hometown of Toronto, losing to Charlotte Flair in what is considered by many to be one of the best matches on the show. It was Trish's first singles match since a 2011 bout against Vickie Guerrero, which went less than three minutes. The 43-year-old more than held her own against Flair and proved that she could hang with the stars of today.

Speaking to WWE's Kayla Braxton after the match, Trish reflected on her SummerSlam moment.

"It was supposed to be a comeback match, but as everything set in, it became clear that it was a farewell match. So, emotions set in at that point. I'm so honored to have been able to go in there with Charlotte Flair. Honestly, [it was] an honor and a privilege to be in there with an athlete of her caliber. I'm thankful that the girls let me dip my toes into the waters of today. We definitely feel like, the girls from before, we laid the platform, but they built a skyscraper."

Trish continued, "The itch never dies. I think only a handful of people in this world can do what we do out there. I'm honored to be one of those people. It's going to be with me forever. The fans are so amazing; they're still supporting me. We should all feel blessed to do what we do out there. It's an amazing place to live your passions out. It's cool to come back as a 'grizzled vet' and see how great everyone is doing. See the passion back here. It's a lot of fun."

While Trish may never step foot in the ring again, she is set to be part of the SmackDown 20th Anniversary show on Oct. 4. You can find out more information about her appearance by clicking here.
