Two Bouts Added To 9/4 NJPW Wrestle Grand Slam

NJPW has made two matches official for night one of Wrestle Grand Slam in September.

NJPW announced that Kazuchika Okada will face Jeff Cobb in singles competition on September 4 at MetLife Dome. Okada defeated Cobb at Wrestle Grand Slam in the Tokyo Dome, but Cobb wasn't finished with "The Rainmaker," attacking him at Monday's Summer Struggle event.

Plus, Chase Owens will defend the KOPW 2021 trophy against Toru Yano. Owens won the trophy at Wrestle Grand Slam in a Ranbo. Yano is the reigning 2020 KOPW. Both men will select a stipulation for the match that will be voted on by the fans.

From NJPW:

After the IWGP Junior Heavyweight, IWGP Tag team and IWGP World Heavyweight Championship matches were officially announced for September 5 and the second night of Wrestle Grand Slam action in the MetLife Dome, September 4 has had its first matches confirmed, with big rivalries seeing new chapters.

First, Kazuchika Okada will once again be taking on Jeff Cobb. At the Tokyo Dome on July 25, Okada survived incredible punishment to surprise the Imperial Unit with a rollup to capture victory. A frustrated Cobb declared that he would head back to the United States to come up with another gameplan, but this turned out to be a ruse. July 27 in Korakuen, Cobb surprised an Okada victorious after tag team competition, and delivered a thunderous Tour of the Islands. Backstage Cobb delcared that he wanted more of Okada one on one, and the date is now set. Will lightning strike twice for the Rainmaker, or will Cobb score the biggest win of his career to date?

Also official for night one in the MetLife Dome, Toru Yano will challenge KOPW 2021 holder Chase Owens. Owens outlasted the field in the New Japan Ranbo with handcuffs at the Tokyo Dome, becoming the first to take the KOPW trophy away from the Master Thief. Now Yano has a chance to get the trophy back. What rules will be selected by the participants? We’ll find out in due course.
