The Women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic kicked off while the Men's Dusty Classic continued on Wednesday's NXT.
Leon Ruff & Kushida and Lucha House Party (Lince Dorado & Gran Metalik) advanced on the men's side while Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter won in the first Women's Dusty Classic bout.
In the opening bout of the night, Kushida & Leon Ruff advanced by defeating Johnny Gargano & Austin Theory. The finish saw Kushida pin NXT North American Champion Gargano with a hammerlock suplex.
Kushida and Ruff will face the Grizzled Young Veterans in the second round. The duo of Zack Gibson and James Drake defeated Ever-Rise in their first-round matchup.

In the other Men's Dusty Cup match on the night, Lucha House Party picked up the victory over Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner). The victory came when Dorado hit a shooting star press to get the three count.
Lucha House Party will now face Legado del Fantasma (Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza) in the second round. Legado del Fantasma knocked off The Bollywood Boyz (Samir Singh and Sunil Singh) in the first round.

On the women's side, Catanzaro & Carter pulled off the upset over Toni Storm & Mercedes Martinez when Catanzaro hit multi-rotation top rope senton onto Storm for the win. The match also saw Io Shirai run in to take out Martinez.
Kacy & Kayden will meet the winners of Aliyah & Jessi Kamea vs. Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez in the second round.
