Tyler Breeze Says Bayley And Mercedes Mone Had A Bit Where They’d Copy His Matches On NXT Live Events
Tyler Breeze tells a funny story that involves Bayley and Mercedes Mone.
Many fans consider Breeze to be a building block of NXT, as he was one of the brand’s top stars from 2014 to 2015. Despite being young, Breeze was also a coach/mentor for many names, as he knew that he was going to open a wrestling school one day.
Speaking with Fightful Overbooked’s In The Weeds podcast, Breeze talked about how everyone helped each other in NXT because there was no blueprint of how to make things work.
“It was a pivotal time within a great, great roster of talented and hungry people. We were all essentially in the same part of our career where we were all trying to figure stuff out, not only trying to figure out how to become something that’s marketable, something that could work, something that could have great matches and go on to Raw and SmackDown and WrestleMania and everything else. But, we were all learning how to navigate a system as well, we were learning to how to navigate the performance center, navigate coaches, navigate producers, navigate feedback, all of this type of stuff. There was no real blueprint of ways to figure things out. It was just a matter of kind of watching each other and even at that point, I kind of knew that at some point, I was going to open up a school. I really liked coaching and training people.
Breeze then went on and talked about how he kept himself open for questions, saying that Bayley and Mercedes Mone (Sasha Banks) had an inside joke about his advice/coaching.
“At the time, if anybody had any questions or whatever, they would come up and they would ask and I would teach them and coach them as best as I could at that time. I think I’ve always kind of had a knack for it, being able to translate things a certain way so that somebody could understand them. Bayley and Mercedes were two, among many, that would ask for feedback and advice and everything else. What we did just happened to work, we figured out ways to make things work and kind of get your characters to different areas and figure out the missing pieces to go on and do what you’re doing. We always kind of worked together and I guess they liked my advice or my coaching, so they had a little inside joke with themselves of like, What would breeze do?”
Breeze even recalled a point where Mone and Bayley were copying his matches on the live event circuit.
“At some point, they’d essentially copy my matches and just wrestle like me and I’d go, ‘Guys, what are you doing?’ They’d just laugh to themselves and it was just a fun little thing they did on live events.”
