Former WCW wrestler Van Hammer has been pulled from WrestleCon in Tampa following his arrest for DUI. Hammer was being brought in by a vendor and not by WrestleCon.
Hammer (real name Mark Hildreth) was arrested on Sunday, Jan. 26 and charged with driving under the influence in Boynton Beach, FL. The local police report Hildreth's car struck a five-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle. The boy was admitted as a trauma patient with possible internal injuries but is in stable condition. His injuries are not life-threatening according to Palm Beach Post.
According to the police report, Hildreth allegedly got out of the car, stated the boy jumped out in front of him, then drove away. A witness followed Hildreth to his home and identified him to police. The police report states Hildreth smelled of alcohol and refused to take a breathalyzer, leading to his arrest.
The Washington Times reports Hildreth was driving 58 in a 35 mph zone.
He has been charged with felony hit and run with failure to stop in a crash involving others and serious bodily injuries, DUI with injuries to another person and leaving the scene of an injury crash. Bail is set at $125,000.
Hildreth wrestled as Van Hammer in WCW during the 90s.
