Vince McMahon Chose The Word 'Stupendous' To Market WrestleMania Because People Have To Look It Up

Vince McMahon explains why WWE is branding WrestleMania as 'stupendous.'

Undoubtedly, WWE is a top-tier example of a branding machine. WWE manages to get its intellectual property onto every possible piece of merchandise imaginable, WWE single-handedly put the word SmackDown on the map, and WWE turned WrestleMania into a globally renowned brand.

This year, WrestleMania is being branded as “The Most Stupendous Two-Night WrestleMania in History.” Throughout this year’s Road to WrestleMania, the word “stupendous” has been uttered numerous times with most wrestling fans hearing the word more times during this year's Road to WrestleMania than they likely ever will for the rest of their entire lives.

As it turns out, that is exactly why Vince McMahon says he chose the word “stupendous,” because it's not a word most people ever hear.

"I love branding," said Vince on the March 3 Pat McAfee Show. "We almost try to brand everything and marketing is just fascinating to do that. You have to do, 'what makes this WrestleMania different?' The word 'stupendous' is not used very often. When you're hitting stupendous, 'what the hell is stupendous?' A lot of people have to look it up. It sounds good. It sounds grand. STUPENDOUS! I would use that word before, it's not in everyday speak, that's why you want to do something that is going to get everyone's attention. What's stupendous and WrestleMania?"

In another case of WWE's love for branding, the main event of the second night of “The Most Stupendous Two-Night WrestleMania in History” is Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar in a Winner-Take-All Unification Match for both the WWE World and WWE Universal Championships which WWE has given the modest headline of "The Biggest Match in WrestleMania History.”

Vince McMahon will not just be promoting during the weekend of WrestleMania 38, he will also be appearing at the WWE Hall of Fame to induct The Undertaker. Learn more about that here.
