Wade Barrett: John Cena Owed It To The Fans To Close Things Out The Right Way
John Cena has had his ups and downs during his retirement tour, notably turning heel, winning the Undisputed WWE Championship, turning back to babyface, and losing the title.
Many fans didn’t love the heel turn, but have enjoyed his return to babyface form. Wade Barrett, who was a rival of Cena’s during his in-ring days, had a front row seat for much of it as a WWE announcer.
Speaking to Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Barrett commented on Cena’s final years.
“I don’t know if he took some bad advice on the whole heel turn. I didn’t like it at all. I didn’t think it was the right move, and I think his course correct around about SummerSlam time was absolutely the right thing to do. I think he owed it to the WWE Universe and, of course, his legions of Cenation fans to close this thing out the right way and give people what they wanted from him, which is the John Cena they’ve known and loved all along,” said Barrett.
Cena will have his last match on Saturday at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event against Gunther.
