Will Ospreay Confirms His NJPW Contract Is Up In February 2024

Will Ospreay provides an update on his contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Ospreay has become one of NJPW's top stars in recent years. Though he has battled some injuries, he has won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship and the IWGP United States Championship, among other accolades. He recently faced Kenny Omega in a buzzworthy dream match at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.

Speaking with Christopher Walker of DAZN, Ospreay confirmed that his NJPW contract will be up in February of 2024. The comment came as the former IWGP United States Champion was sharing his thoughts on the importance, or lack thereof, of having his matches receive high ratings.

“My contract with New Japan is up next February so from that point who's not gonna want this kid who's dedicated to being a hard worker and wanting to put on the best quality of matches," Ospreay said.

Ospreay also noted that, when his contract comes up, his reputation for putting on remarkable matches will prove to be beneficial.

“The reason why I say no is because they don’t impact my paycheque. I still get paid the same regardless. In my humble opinion, [star ratings] don’t matter in terms of financial gain, but in terms of viewership, because I’m this British kid who has done it on Indy shows, I know that when my [NJPW] contract comes up, there’ll be a fight for who wants the best five-star wrestler right now," Ospreay said.

Ospreay has expressed his interest in competing at AEW All In. Check out his comments here.
