For many professional wrestlers, the job is more than just that, it is a vehicle for their passion for performance art come to life. This is no different for Ospreay, who notes that he isn’t in the wrestling industry because of money.

While speaking to Extreme Channel Poland in an interview recorded before AEW All In, Will Ospreay spoke about breaking into wrestling, noting that he got into the wrestling industry not for the money, but because he loved it.

“I generally do believe, like, when I got lucky, because there were so many- I came in to the British wrestling scene and then guys like PAC left. So there was room for a British high flyer to be doing some stuff. Then I started making my name, and I was just doing every show I physically could. Like, Friday to Sunday, I was literally up and down the country. I would work from next to nothing, then from there it was just, I got lucky and AJ and Nakamura and the Good Brothers all got signed. So then there was a huge opening in New Japan to go and make my name there. So all of this is about timing. But like, I would have not got to that position if I wasn’t wrestling every single weekend and, I think it’s so so important to tell people, like, the economy, like global economy right now, like everyone’s in the shits right now like, fucking council tax in the UK has gone up and they’re doing fucking less. They don’t even collect brown bins anymore, for fuck’s sake. You have to pay for that shit. So many people are like, scraping bits of money together to try and make sure that they’re okay and they can put food in their fridge and ensure that they’re looking after their family. I was lucky enough that my parents supported me and I had so much support from my entire family to be able to live out my dream. I never did this for money. I did this because I fucking loved it. I loved every single bit of it, and I think that’s where I found my success. Because I didn’t do it for money. I just did it because I wanted to be involved in this.”

Elsewhere in another recent interview, Ospreay spoke about being courted by WWE for the Cruiserweight Classic. You can read more about that here.
